UAE FLIGHTS TO SAUDI CITY CANCELLED AFTER ABHA ATTACK

Flights between the UAE and the Saudi city of Abha were cancelled on Tuesday after Yemen’s Houthi movement launched missiles and drones towards Abha International Airport, disrupting air connectivity between the two countries.

Two flydubai services from Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 to Abha, scheduled to depart at 10.25am and 4.05pm on July 14, were listed as cancelled on the airline’s website.

Air Arabia also cancelled its scheduled service between Sharjah and Abha, according to the airline’s flight status page.

The cancellations come after the Houthis claimed responsibility for targeting Abha International Airport late on Monday, describing the attack as retaliation for strikes on Yemen’s Sanaa International Airport earlier in the day.

According to Associated Press, in a statement carried by Houthi media, military spokesperson Yahya Saree warned airlines against operating flights to airports in Saudi Arabia until what the group described as the blockade on Sanaa International Airport is lifted.

Saudi authorities said air defence systems intercepted missiles and drones launched towards the kingdom’s southern region. No casualties were immediately reported following the attack.
